Based in Windsor, VT, Wangene's business, Global Village Foods, makes ready-made meals and samosas with bold African flavor for local food co-ops and whole foods across New England. She started her business because she wanted to make African food for everyone by making it delicious, allergy-friendly, and accessible to all.
Wangene came to CWE for mentorship and advice on pressing business needs, as well as introductions to other resources. Global Village Foods has been incorporated and operational since 2015 and has 10-15 employees. By 2025, Wangene hopes to have a diversified and structurally strong business with channels in nationwide wholesale retail, institutional foodservice, and direct-to-consumer e-commerce. When COVID hit, Global Village Foods lost 70% of its revenue, so Wangene quickly pivoted into e-commerce with the help of CWE and Windham Grows.
