With CWE, I was able to create my own business plan and gain the confidence I needed to go after my dream."
Charlene Huard Marcoux
What inspired Charlene's Business?
As the mother of neurodivergent children, Charlene saw through the eyes of a parent the importance of having safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for special needs families. After using these services for her own children and then working within all sides of the industry, her journey became her passion as she started her own transportation company with Home Base Transportation, LLC.
Business Highlight
Home Base Transportation has seen immense growth since it began transporting months ago. After starting out with just two vans and two drivers, Charlene has seen more than triple growth in staff due to the growing need for these services. She now has at least ten vehicle and student requests from current or new school districts for the upcoming school year and is on pace to gross $1.4 million.
Charlene's business supports homeless and special needs students varying from autistic, nonverbal, behavioral health, Down's Syndrome, etc. The area served is that of Southern New Hampshire, in conjunction with supporting the McKinney-Vento (homeless and /or foster students)population. Currently, she works with 7 local school districts and is expecting an additional one at the end of the month.
What sets her business apart from other transportation companies is her staff. She hires drivers and monitors who have the same care, passion, and willingness to help this community. All of our staff have gone through extensive background checks, and are drug-free. They offer safety and security to the students, parents, guardians, and school districts Each vehicle is equipped with two cameras: one camera facing the driver & the road, and an additional one in the back of the van.
How Has CWE Helped Her in Her Journey?
Charlene has found CWE essential in her journey of starting a new venture. With the Business Planning Intensive Course, Charlene was able to gain the confidence to hone in on what she really wanted her new business to look like, and she considers one of her biggest successes with CWE the development of her business plan. The guidance and knowledge she received from CWE staff gave her the confidence to put her plan together and go after her dream.
The support from the staff and instructors, along with the friends she has gained by participating in courses with CWE has been immeasurable and has expanded her knowledge in a variety of areas to support her business. She sees the rewards of this on the faces of everyone in the community she impacts in a positive way by providing safe, reliable, efficient transportation to the special needs education population.
