What inspired Cecilia’s business?

Cecilia was inspired to co-found Positive Street Art after recognizing how few accessible, culturally grounded pathways existed for youth and emerging artists in her state. She saw talent, stories, and creativity going unseen due to a lack of representation, mentorship, and meaningful entry points into the arts.

Driven by a desire to preserve culture and create opportunity, she helped build an organization rooted in community, lived experience, and the belief that art is a powerful tool for expression, healing, and social change.

Business Highlights

Since opening in January 2012, Positive Street Art has grown into a respected, community-rooted arts organization offering public art projects, creative programming, and artist development opportunities. The organization has expanded its reach through partnerships with schools and community groups while responding to increasing demand for culturally grounded programming.

As it approaches its 14-year anniversary, the organization’s longevity reflects sustained impact, growing partnerships, and a deepening role in strengthening community connection, cultural pride, and artistic confidence.

How has CWE helped Cecilia in her journey?

CWE has supported Cecilia by providing guidance, tools, and meaningful connections that helped her navigate real-world challenges and emerging trends. Through direct engagement with CWE staff, she gained clarity and confidence in her leadership and decision-making.

Even without formal coursework, this support strengthened both her personal growth and the operational direction of Positive Street Art, helping position the organization for continued expansion and impact.

How does she feel about owning her own business?

Owning and running a nonprofit makes Cecilia feel deeply purposeful and connected to the community she serves. While the work is challenging, it is profoundly fulfilling to know the organization directly uplifts people who often feel unseen or unsupported.

The responsibility of leadership is balanced by the knowledge that her work creates meaningful opportunities and lasting change through creativity and care.

How has building her own business changed Cecilia’s life?

Building Positive Street Art has shaped Cecilia into a stronger, more empathetic leader. The experience has reinforced the importance of resilience, adaptability, and creative problem-solving in the face of ongoing challenges.

Through this journey, her worldview has expanded, and her commitment to service has deepened as she continues to learn from the communities and artists she supports.

What has creating a business of her own done for Cecilia?

Creating Positive Street Art has impacted every part of Cecilia’s life. It has inspired her family, brought pride to her community, and allowed her to contribute to a ripple effect of healing, empowerment, and cultural preservation.

The organization has also enabled her to create spaces where mentorship, representation, and creative opportunity are not exceptions, but expectations.
