Doug Shaw was CEO and President of Monotype from 2007 to 2015. Monotype is the world’s largest provider of typefaces, and related technologies and expertise. Doug took the company public in 2007 and closed out 2015 with a market cap of $1 billion. Doug retired from Monotype on January 1, 2016, remains on the Board of Directors, and is teaching a course at Boston College on entrepreneurial management.

In 1986, Doug co-founded the Monotype division of Compugraphic and held various senior positions in business planning, marketing and sales. He was instrumental in constructing the business model, the diversification strategy and in the acquisition of a dozen companies. He was the driving force behind the management lead divestiture and partnering with TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity firm. Doug has over 30 years of experience in the software distribution business having developed both the e-commerce and OEM channels.

Prior to Monotype, Doug worked for the Bank of Boston as a Vice president in their Automated Services group. He holds a B.S. from Boston College and an M.B.A. from Babson College. A life long Bostonian, Doug and his wife live in the Back Bay with their four kids nearby.
