Congratulations on your decision to dive into the world of non-profits! At CWE, we are passionate about empowering business owners like you to launch and elevate their ventures. While our primary focus is on for-profit businesses, we recognize that non-profits hold a special place in the community—and that the planning process is just as crucial for you!

We invite you to participate in our workshops and utilize our extensive resources. However, please note that our one-on-one counseling support for non-profits is limited, but we’re here to guide you as best we can!

As you embark on this journey, consider whether a non-profit structure truly aligns with your vision. Many of our clients have found incredible success as mission-driven businesses! These enterprises address pressing issues in their communities while enhancing the well-being of their stakeholders, supply chains, employees, and consumers.

Non-Profits vs. Mission-Driven Businesses: Find Your Fit

A non-profit is a tax-exempt corporation dedicated to a specific cause, such as combating hunger. Like for-profit organizations, non-profits require a Board of Directors and solid management. They can access grant funding, although the process can be daunting and time-consuming. While starting and running a nonprofit can be incredibly rewarding, it’s essential to recognize the significant effort required to maintain it.

On the other hand, a mission-driven business, also known as a social enterprise, operates with a social mission but is structured as a for-profit entity, such as a sole proprietorship or an LLC. Though it pays taxes and isn’t eligible for most grants, it generally faces less regulation and has a transparent ownership structure. This means you can direct your business’s contributions to the causes that matter most to you.
