Center for Women & Enterprise Partners with Eos Foundation to help lift women out of poverty through entrepreneurship BOSTON, MA –The Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE), a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational programming and training for women entrepreneurs, announced today that the Eos Foundation has provided a $100,000 grant to increase access to entrepreneurial training for women in the Greater Boston Area, Worcester, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island.

During the current economic recession, more women than ever are turning to entrepreneurship out of necessity. CWE provides the critical skills necessary to start, sustain or expand a small business. Many successful businesses have been launched during past recessions and entrepreneurial training increases new businesses’ sustainability. CWE equips entrepreneurs with critical strategies to plan and manage cost-effective businesses prepared to survive and thrive in a down economy.

Each year, CWE works with women to lift their families out of poverty by helping them realize their dreams of entrepreneurship. CWE’s clients are drawn from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, ranging from women living in public housing and starting home-based or small retail businesses to women running fast-growth, multi-million-dollar technology companies. Low-income women participating in training opportunities at an organization which serves women across a spectrum of socioeconomic demographics benefit from the availability of networking and mentorship opportunities which accelerate transition into the economic mainstream.

“We are honored to have been working with the Eos Foundation since 2001 to change the trajectory of women’s lives. The Eos Foundation has made it possible over the years for CWE to help more than 14,500 women (and men) create of 18,000 new jobs, which have generated more than $537 million in wages. The Eos Foundation’s partnership with CWE has changed the lives of women who have started businesses as diverse as home day care, fitness trainer, doggie daycare, bakery, commercial cleaning, and custom drapery,” said Center for Women and Enterprise CEO Susan Rittscher.

CWE provides a community atmosphere for women seeking to start and grow their businesses. CWE’s programs and services are available to every gender and socioeconomic class. Sliding scale scholarships for low-income women are available by application.
